Arriving
By car, bus and train.

By car
Take NH 44 and leave near Vaniyambadi or Tirupattur, then the ghat road up. The climb has fourteen hairpin bends. Take it slowly, and take it very slowly after rain.

By train
Jolarpettai is the nearest major junction and is on the Chennai–Bengaluru line. From there it is a taxi up the hill. The desk can arrange one if you tell them the train.

By bus
State buses run to Yelagiri from Tirupattur and Vaniyambadi. They are slow and they are cheap, and on a Sunday evening they are full.

What to pack
It is a hill station, so it is cooler than the plain, and it is coldest between December and February and in the early mornings all year. Bring one layer more than you think. If you intend to walk up Swamimalai, bring shoes you can grip in, and if you are going to the temple, remember that footwear comes off at the gate.
