Yelagiri Hills · Tamil Nadu · 1,100 m

3 hours from Bengaluru, 14 bends up, and about 10 degrees cooler.

The plains, this region. Not a view from the hotel.

01 · The bends

Fourteen hairpins, and the air changes.

  • The plains fall away behind you.
  • Windows down. It is already cooler.
  • Forest on both sides now, and mist if you are early.
  • The last bend, and the gate.

A ghat road in this region, for the light. Not the road itself.

  • By train

Jolarpettai is the nearest major junction and is on the Chennai–Bengaluru line. From there it is a taxi up the hill. The desk can arrange one if you tell them the train.

  • By bus

State buses run to Yelagiri from Tirupattur and Vaniyambadi. They are slow and they are cheap, and on a Sunday evening they are full.
